Allium multibulbosum nigrum

Allium is an ancient name for garlic, once known as much for their medical and aphrodisiac qualities as for their flavour. Often seen in RHS Show Gardens, we think that no garden should be without an Allium. Lots of small perfectly formed star shaped flowers create large balls of colour that appear to float above other garden perennials. Excellent as cut flowers and perfect planted in containers

They add impact to an early summer border or can be dried for winter decoration. Attractive to bees and butterflies. Rabbit and deer resistant. Leave the foliage to die back naturally so this enables them to build up energy for the next year. There should be no reason to lift your bulbs during the winter as they are fully hardy. Instead, you should mulch the base of your plant well with mushroom compost. Propagate by seed in spring or by bulb offsets in autumn. Hardy perennial.

Plant Hardiness

How hardy are our plants?

All our plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

Fully hardy perennials will withstand temperatures down to -15 °C (5°F) and often lower.
Hardy perennials are happy down to at least -5°C (23°F)
Half hardy perennials can withstand down to around 0°C (32°F)
And Tender perennials may be damaged by temperatures below 5°C (41°F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
If in doubt please give us a call.

"Thank you ladies for your beautiful plants.
Praise also, for the Bulrush Compost, of which I have purchased 8 bags during the past six months. It is superb and my garden has flourished.
Bless you,
Kind wishes"
