Asclepias tuberosa


A magnet for butterflies that are attracted by the clusters of bright flowers and copious amount of nectar.

An impressively bright display is produced during summer, followed by long (6”) pointed pods which are excellent used in dried flower arrangements. Extremely drought tolerant so perfect for containers and borders. Prefer well-drained soil in sun. Height 75-90cm (30-36”). Spread 30cm (12”). Fully hardy perennial.

Drought tolerant. Water sparingly in cold temperatures. Propagate by tip cutting or seed in spring. Contact with the milky sap may cause skin irritation. Hardy perennial. Bare roots take up to 6-8 weeks to appear after planting.

All our plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

Fully hardy perennials will withstand temperatures down to -15 °C (5°F) and often lower.
Hardy perennials are happy down to at least -5°C (23°F)
Half hardy perennials can withstand down to around 0°C (32°F)
And Tender perennials may be damaged by temperatures below 5°C (41°F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
