Bletilla striata Kuchibeni

Many think that terrestrial orchids are difficult. Planted in moist, well-drained soil in dappled shade, they are really easy to grow and truly stunning. Many indigenous orchids are under threat of extinction, however, our plants started their life in a laboratory and have been grown on for several years. Can be divided once established.
Ribbed foliage early in the year, is followed by several spikes each holding up to 14 open mouthed blooms during spring and summer. Spread 45cm (18"). Height 40cm (16").Hardy perennials. Supplied as bare roots from March onwards.

Protect from very hot summers and excessive winter wet. Great in containers or borders. Provide a winter mulch. Propagate by division inAutumn or by seed. Slow growing. Hardy perennial. Bare roots take up to 6-8 weeks to appear after planting.

All our plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

Fully hardy perennials will withstand temperatures down to -15 °C (5°F) and often lower.
Hardy perennials are happy down to at least -5°C (23°F)
Half hardy perennials can withstand down to around 0°C (32°F)
And Tender perennials may be damaged by temperatures below 5°C (41°F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
