Camassia esculenta quamash

Bulbs are edible and nutritious, tasting a little like sweet potato when baked, but apparently cause extreme flatulence.

Up to a hundred star-shaped blooms are held at the top of strong stems, each one opening in starting at the bottom, creating many weeks of colour from late spring. Narrow foliage forms attractive clumps, perfect for naturalising. Great as cut flowers. Prefers moist well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Height 30cm (12”). Spread 20cm (8”). Hardy bulbous perennials. Supplied as bulbs

Plant Hardiness

How hardy are our plants?

All our plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

Fully hardy perennials will withstand temperatures down to -15 °C (5°F) and often lower.
Hardy perennials are happy down to at least -5°C (23°F)
Half hardy perennials can withstand down to around 0°C (32°F)
And Tender perennials may be damaged by temperatures below 5°C (41°F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
If in doubt please give us a call.

"Thank you ladies for your beautiful plants.
Praise also, for the Bulrush Compost, of which I have purchased 8 bags during the past six months. It is superb and my garden has flourished.
Bless you,
Kind wishes"
