Cercis canadensis (Forest Pansy)

This plant takes pride of place in Yvonne’s garden as she loves the perfectly formed heart shaped leaves, the magical kaleidoscope of colour and the bare structure of silver branched stems that look beautiful illuminated with starry lights throughout the winter months. In the spring pink clusters of flowers appear on bare stems before the large 10cm (4”) long heart shaped leaves appear in rich purple fading to lighter purple in the summer then randomly turning from pink to yellow in autumn before losing its leaves. Prefers full sun in any soil. Slow growing height and spread after 50 years 10m (33’”). Fully hardy perennial.
