Also known as Montbretia, the name Crocosmia comes from the Greek ‘Krokos’ meaning saffron and ‘osme’ meaning smell as when rubbed the leaves give a scent of saffron.
Whatever the weather, your autumn garden will be hot, hot, hot with these fiery flowers. Dense clumps of lance shaped foliage are formed and create movement in the breeze while strong arching stems hold sprays of brightly coloured blooms high above. Just plant the corms on arrival and as if by magic they appear in the summer. Good as cut flowers in your home. Drought tolerant, perfect for borders and containers and rabbit resistant. Prefers well-drained soil in sun. Height 75-100cm (30-40"). Spread 10cm (4") though they do 'clump up' very quickly. Hardy tuberous perennial.

All our plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.
Fully hardy perennials will withstand temperatures down to -15 °C (5°F) and often lower. Hardy perennials are happy down to at least -5°C (23°F) Half hardy perennials can withstand down to around 0°C (32°F)
And Tender perennials may be damaged by temperatures below 5°C (41°F)
Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
If in doubt please give us a call.
