Dianthus Odessa (Garden Pinks)


Dianthus have everything, beauty, durability and sensual heady perfume. Good for cutting, flowering for long periods in summer over evergreen foliage. Slug and rabbit resistant. Attractive to bees and butterflies. Unfussy on soil conditions in sun or part shade. Height 30cm (12"). Spread 30-40cm (12-16"). Fully hardy perennials. Supplied as young plants from April.

Attractive to bees and butterflies. Scented. Perfect for borders and containers. Deadhead to encourage more blooms, 'Early Birds' varieties can be sheared lightly to keep them flowering longer. Propagate by taking cuttings from non flowering shoots in summer. They can survive temperatures as low as -27 degrees. They survive this in the ground rather than in pots. Make sure soil is well drained and avoid winter wet which can be harmful. Fully hardy perennial.

How hardy are our plants?

All our plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

Fully hardy perennials will withstand temperatures down to -15 °C (5°F) and often lower.
Hardy perennials are happy down to at least -5°C (23°F)
Half hardy perennials can withstand down to around 0°C (32°F)
And Tender perennials may be damaged by temperatures below 5°C (41°F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
