Eucomis comosa Sparkling Burgundy


A truly impressive bulbous perennial, prized for its exotic rosettes of 60cm (24”) long waxy, strap-shaped dark purple leaves. In early summer, strong dark purple stems emerge, each becomes densely packed with pink purple coconut scented star shaped blooms. Interest continues into Autumn with deep purple pods that develop from each flower. Easy to grow in containers and sheltered borders. Prefers well-drained soil in sun or part shade, avoid winter wet. Height 75cm (30”). Spread 45cm (18”). Hardy perennial.

How hardy are our plants?

All our plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

Fully hardy perennials will withstand temperatures down to -15 °C (5°F) and often lower.
Hardy perennials are happy down to at least -5°C (23°F)
Half hardy perennials can withstand down to around 0°C (32°F)
And Tender perennials may be damaged by temperatures below 5°C (41°F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
