About Helleborus Double Ellen Picotee:

Helleborus bring colour to the garden when most other plants are resting. 

Creamy coloured petals are edged in a rich deep shade of pink creating bi-coloured blooms throughout winter. Glossy, evergreen foliage clump together to form dense mounds of lush-green waves. Deer and rabbit resistant. 

Height and spread 35cm (14"). Fully hardy perennial. Supplied as young plants. Fully hardy perennial.

History of the Hellebore:

Helleborus are more commonly known as the 'Christmas' or 'Lenten' Rose as they flower profusely during the winter period. They form as part of the Buttercup family.

During the medieval era, Hellebore's were used to form medicines that would aid in the cure of gout, paralysis and insanity.

Planting Guide:

Helleborus are best planted in moist, well-drained soil and should be positioned in a shady spot of the garden. Apply a mulch of leaf mould in order to enhance soil fertility whilst retaining good moisture levels.

Additional Information

Apply mulch in July and December when flowers are forming to give the plants a boost in nutrients. Strong sunlight all day may discourage the plants from flowering. All parts may cause stomach upset if ingested. Contact with sap may cause skin allergies. Deer resistant. Propagate by division after flowering. Fully hardy perennial.

Fully hardy perennials will withstand temperatures down to -15 °C (5°F) and often lower.
Hardy perennials are happy down to at least -5°C (23°F)
Half hardy perennials can withstand down to around 0°C (32°F)
And Tender perennials may be damaged by temperatures below 5°C (41°F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
