Nicandra physaloides

(Shoo fly plant) Flowering from mid summer to autumn and known for having insect repellent properties hence the common name, both the Chinese lantern shaped blooms and stems are indigo blue and followed by spherical 5cm wide green berries with purple and green calyces. Good for cutting. Easy to propagate from seed. Prefers moist well drained soil in sun. Height 100cm (40”). Spread 45-60cm (18-24”). Hardy annual.
