Additional Information

Rhubarb (Rheum rhabarbarum) is a species of plant in the family Polygonaceae. It is a herbaceous perennial growing from short, thick rhizomes. It produces large poisonous leaves that are somewhat triangular, with long fleshy edible stalks and small flowers grouped in large compound leafy greenish-white to rose-red inflorescences. Hothouse rhubarb is usually brighter red, more tender and sweeter-tasting than outdoors rhubarb. In the United Kingdom, the first rhubarb of the year is harvested by candlelight in forcing sheds where all other light is excluded ? a practice that produces a sweeter, more tender stalk.

Plant Hardiness

How hardy are our plants?

All our plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

Fully hardy perennials will withstand temperatures down to -15 °C (5°F) and often lower.
Hardy perennials are happy down to at least -5°C (23°F)
Half hardy perennials can withstand down to around 0°C (32°F)
And Tender perennials may be damaged by temperatures below 5°C (41°F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
If in doubt please give us a call.

"Thank you ladies for your beautiful plants.
Praise also, for the Bulrush Compost, of which I have purchased 8 bags during the past six months. It is superb and my garden has flourished.
Bless you,
Kind wishes"
