The word Salvia is derived from the Latin ‘salvere’ meaning ‘to save’ as it has been used medicinally for centuries. Beautiful open mouthed blooms adorn scented foliage from spring to autumn, wonderful planted near a path or seat where the fragrance will be released when the foliage is disturbed. Prefers well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Height & spread 60-90cm (24-36”). Hardy perennial.

Drought tolerant. Attracts bees and butterflies. Aromatic foliage. May need winter protection in damp and colder areas if below -5 degrees. If in doubt take cuttings as an insurance policy. Slugs may attack young foliage. Propagate by division in spring or semi-ripe cuttings from non flowering shoots in summer. Hardy perennial. (Bare roots take up to 6-8 weeks to appear after planting.) Fully hardy perennials will withstand temperatures down to -15 °C (5°F) and often lower. Hardy perennials are happy down to at least -5°C (23°F) Half hardy perennials can withstand down to around 0°C (32°F)
And Tender perennials may be damaged by temperatures below 5°C (41°F)
Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
