There are relatively few flowers that begin blooming in late summer and continue to put on an amazing display throughout the autumn, despite the worsening weather. Schizostylis is one such plant and deserves to be much better known for this virtue.
The plants resemble small clumps of gladioli with linear leaves and upright flower-spikes, each topped by several blooms like wide open salmon pink crocus. Sunrise has larger flowers that most varieties, up to 5cm across. Excellent for cutting.
Height & spread 50-60cm (20-24"). Prefers moist well drained soil in sun.
The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM) for outstanding garden performance.
