Verbascum Clementine

Just like the well-known folk ballad ‘Oh my darling Clementine’ she is tall, elegant and architectural. During Summer, well-branching stem holds many burgundy blushed buds from which delicate soft salmon-orange blooms unfurl, each with a stunning magenta eye. Large rippled green leaves form tidy rosettes below. Bred by the keepers of the National Collection of Verbascums, to be longer lasting than others. Attractive to butterflies, deer and rabbit resistant, excellent for cutting. Prefers well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Height 1.2m (4’). Spread 30-45cm (12-18”). Hardy perennial.

Additional Information

In fertile soil they may grow large and need staking. Deer, slug and rabbit resistant. Once fully mature, you may water Verbascum sparingly as these plants are relatively drought tolerant and will thrive in dry soil. Cut back taller stems in the autumn if you do not wish for your plants to self-propagate. Propagate by division in the spring or take root cuttings in winter. Fully hardy perennial.

Plant Hardiness

How hardy are our plants?

All our plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

Fully hardy perennials will withstand temperatures down to -15 °C (5°F) and often lower.
Hardy perennials are happy down to at least -5°C (23°F)
Half hardy perennials can withstand down to around 0°C (32°F)
And Tender perennials may be damaged by temperatures below 5°C (41°F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.

"Thank you ladies for your beautiful plants.
Praise also, for the Bulrush Compost, of which I have purchased 8 bags during the past six months. It is superb and my garden has flourished.
Bless you,
Kind wishes"
