Verbena bonariensis


Loved by bees and excellent as cut flowers for the home, wild flowers are easy to grow and look stunning when planted amongst grasses.
The tall square structural stems entwine forming a natural frame, while large flattened heads of fragrant lilac purple flowers hover high above from mid-summer to late autumn. Prefers well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Height 1.5m (5’). Spread 45cm (18”). Hardy perennial.

Can suffer dieback if cut back in autumn, so cut back in spring when new growth is emerging. Mulch around base in autumn. Propagate by stem cuttings in late summer or autumn, or by seed in autumn or spring. Avoid getting too wet over winter. Hardy perennial

All our plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

Fully hardy perennials will withstand temperatures down to -15 °C (5°F) and often lower.
Hardy perennials are happy down to at least -5°C (23°F)
Half hardy perennials can withstand down to around 0°C (32°F)
And Tender perennials may be damaged by temperatures below 5°C (41°F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
