Zaluzianskya ovata (Night Phlox)

We nicknamed this the Mighty Atom, as although small, it really does pack a punch. In June, the evergreen dome is smothered with deep maroon buds which open during the early part of the day to reveal pure white heart shaped petals. Closing during the hottest part of the day they open again in the evening releasing a rich heady perfume. It just has to be seen (or smelt) to be believed. Prefers moist but well drained soil in sun or part shade. Height & spread 30cm (12”). Half hardy perennial, down to around -5oC.
