So many good qualities you will soon be inviting it into your garden. Stout stems hold rust coloured buds the size of a chickens egg! Papery bracts give a cheerful mop of sunshine and colour from July to September over a mid green mass of foliage. Easy to grow, good as cut flowers. Rabbit and deer resistant. Prefers moist soil in sun or partial shade. Height 90-120cm (36-48”). Spread 60cm (24”). Hardy perennial.

The Georgians collected and cooked the roots in the same way as we might Asparagus, but it was their reputed aphrodisiac properties that really got our ancestors going. The distinctly sculptured grey foliage displays curiously attractive flowers, which change to electric colours in summer. Extra thick outer leaf layers cut down water loss helping them to flower whilst other plants frazzle. Rabbit resistant. Prefers dry soil in full sun. Height 60-70cm (24-28”). Spread 30-45cm (12-18”). Hardy perennial.
