In the language of flowers, Dahlia means dignity and elegance, and Tartan gives plenty of both. We have been lucky enough to persuade the grower to allow us to be the first to offer this new variety. Huge plate size flowers that appear on strong stems from July to October, the petals striped white and burgundy looking not unlike a Scottish plaid. Prefers well drained soil in sun or part shade. Height 80cm (32"). Spread 60cm (24"). Tuberous perennial.

Dahlias

have an undeserved reputation for being hard to overwinter but they are

extremely easy. These modern varieties can be left in the ground as long as your

soil is well-drained. Alternatively grow in large pots which can be displayed on the

patio or buried into the border, then after the first frosts put the pots into a shed

or garage until the following spring.
