The name is said to have arisen from a story about playful fairies, always playing pranks. Wanting to help the wily foxes, they slipped a foxglove over each paw and ever since, the fox has had the attribute of stealth. They even left their little fairy fingerprints on the blooms, in the form of tiny spots as proof.
