Galium odoratum

Widely used in herbal medicine during the middle ages Sweet Woodruff is today used in Germany to flavour wine and beer, or in jelly and jam. Mixed with Schnapps it makes a popular drink. Clusters of highly scented dainty starry white flowers smother the ground hugging lance shaped foliage from May to July. Deer resistant. Great as dried flowers or as pot-pourri, can also used as a moth deterrent. Prefers moist soil in part or full shade. Height 15-25cm (6-10”). Spread 35cm (14”). Hardy perennial.
