Although known as the Lenten Rose, they are not roses at all but actually belong to the Buttercup family. Nothing can compete in providing a whoosh of colour in the winter months as masses of red cup shaped flowers appear in January until the end of spring above abundant glossy evergreen foliage. Apply mulch in July and December when flowers are forming to give the plants a boost in nutrients. Strong sunlight all day may discourage the plants from flowering.
