Ancient Egyptians placed Iris on the Sphinx as well as on the sceptres of their kings, with the three leaves of the bloom signifying faith, wisdom and valour. Sword shaped foliage gives structure and supports beautiful intricate fragrant flowers which often inspire botanical artists. Flowering May to July, and with careful cultivation again in autumn. Prefers sunny position in well drained soil.
