Nigra flowers at a younger age than most magnolias, remains compact and is,relatively short and slow growing. Perfect if you are mad about magnolias but only have a small garden. Very dark purple-red petals form chalice shaped flowers over waxy green flowers in flushes from early summer through to autumn.. Prefers full sun or part shade in moist well-drained and slightly acidic soil. Height and spread 2.5m (8' approx). Hardy perennial.
