Wild Oenothera have many medicinal and culinary uses, young roots apparently have a peppery taste and can be eaten like a vegetable, whilst the shoots can be eaten in salad. Highly fragrant cup shaped papery soft yellow flowers up to 4” across, turn russet as they fade, each one opening in the evening and staying open to the following evening, hence the name. Happy in borders and containers. Prefers well drained soil in sun. Height 60cm (24”). Spread 45cm (18”). Hardy perennial.
