Penstemon will become the insomniac party animals of your garden. Summer arrives and they’re flowering, summer ends and they are still at it, autumn turns up and they are still
flowering relentlessly. Oblivious of drought or rain, resists slugs and other pests, thrives in most soil conditions in sun or part shade and propagates so painlessly. Easy to grow too. Height 45-100cm (18-40"). Spread 45-60cm (18-24").

Additional Information

Overwatering young plants can be detrimental. Let the compost dry out before re-watering and give plenty of ventilation. Once established, dead-head regularly to encourage further flowering. Slug and rabbit resistant. Cut back in late spring, not autumn, to 25cm to encourage basal growth. Propagate by taking cuttings from non flowering shoots in summer.***Please note that for Penstemon Dark Towers that unlicensed propagation is prohibited. ******* Hardy perennial.

How hardy are our plants?

All our plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

Fully hardy perennials will withstand temperatures down to -15 °C (5°F) and often lower.
Hardy perennials are happy down to at least -5°C (23°F)
Half hardy perennials can withstand down to around 0°C (32°F)
And Tender perennials may be damaged by temperatures below 5°C (41°F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
