Millettia reticulata Satsuma - Limited Availability

Nicknamed the Evergreen Wisteria, this exceptionally understated climber is both attractive and rewarding to grow. Offering a graceful, undemanding nature, it’s easy to grow and it has a late-flowering period.

Thriving in a sheltered spot in dappled sun, its habit is untamed and spirited. Dressed in eight-inch-long Wisteria-like panicles, a mature specimen can be a pure delight to witness in flower from August to December.

Blooms are equally scented but far more eye-catching. Dark purple and maroon with vibrant yellow centres.Growing up to 15ft in one season, prune at will, but plant in a site which can support its weight. It’s ideal over sturdy pergolas displaying a thick covering of glossy semi-evergreen leaves.

Heavily mulch crown with leaf mould in winter to provide extra weather protection.

Additional Information

Very rare and very fragrant. Mature established plants become drought tolerant and low maintenance. Often referred to as the Evergreen Wisteria can keep its leaves all season in the UK when planted in a sheltered spot, however it really should be noted as a semi-evergreen Wisteria. It becomes a large specimen with a vigorous rapid growth rate ideal for quickly covering structures within the garden. Hardy to -12C.

Half hardy perennials can withstand down to around 0°C (32°F)

"Thank you ladies for your beautiful plants.
Praise also, for the Bulrush Compost, of which I have purchased 8 bags during the past six months. It is superb and my garden has flourished.
Bless you,
Kind wishes"
