Helleborus are one of the most popular and best-loved winter flowering varieties, with an ever expanding fan club of admirers. You may have heard Hellebores referred to as a 'Christmas' or 'Lenten Rose'. This is due to their profuse flowering habit over the winter months, providing much needed colour and flamboyancy in an often grey landscape. Although referred to as a Rose, these beautiful blooms are in fact part of the Buttercup family.
No other bloom will provide such elegance and colour throughout the coldest of months, displaying delicate cup-shaped flowers with variable shades, patterns and stature.
Hellebores are easy to grow and care for, making them the perfect plant for those with limited time. Hellebores are best planted in a position of dappled shade and should be kept in moist, well-drained soil to thrive. Water well when planted and during prolonged dry spells. It is always beneficial to apply to layer of mulch to retain moisture levels, whilst suppressing weeds and adding vital nutritional value.
