Introduced into England in 1844, the Ugni reputedly became one of Queen Victoria’s favourites. White flowers appear over evergreen foliage from May to July followed by dark red fruits, which taste like strawberries. Homemade Ugni jam is popular in Cornwall. The leaves are a substitute for tea and the seeds can roasted and used for coffee. Drought tolerant and evergreen. Prefers sun in well drained soil. Height & spread 150cm (60"). Hardy perennial.
